About Gwiji for Women

Gwiji for Women is a Nairobi tech startup that identifies, vets, trains and empowers low-income women in the gig economy, connecting cleaners known locally as 'mama fua' with clients who need home and office cleaning through a mobile app. Beyond digital job matching it offers skills training, professional certification, emergency alerts, worker vetting and a guaranteed minimum pay rate, plus savings, health, legal and mental-health support programmes; it has handled more than 2,000 orders. Launched in May 2022 by co-founder and director Elizabeth Mwangi, winner of the 2023 Aurora Tech Award, it was selected for Cohort 4 of the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship run by iHub in the girls-and-young-women track.
