About Wavu

Wavu is a Kenyan aquaculture platform that connects smallholder fish farmers with inputs, logistics and markets. Farmers order feed, fingerlings and equipment by texting a WhatsApp number backed by an AI assistant; Wavu sources the goods, delivers them, and advises on feeding. On the sales side it aggregates demand from buyers and guarantees an offtake market for harvested tilapia, earning a commission on each transaction. Leasing, financing, insurance and farmer education services are planned.

The company is headquartered in Kisumu on Lake Victoria, with part of the team working from Nairobi, and reports having served more than 1,500 farmers. By December 2024 it had processed about 30 orders, earned roughly $30,000 in revenue and aggregated 15 tonnes of fish while remaining bootstrapped.

Wavu was established in May 2024 during the Blue Venture Builder Africa programme by a women-led team: Don Okoth (CEO), Lorna Afwandi (co-founder and COO), Vincent Oduor (CTO), Angela Odero (CFO) and Amaan Pirani (CSO). It has been recognised through the E4I Incubator Programme and a UNIDO Global Food Tech award, and in October 2026 was selected among 22 ventures for Seedstars' SANAD ElevateHer programme.
