About Propela Health
Propela Health is a talent-mobility startup that connects skilled African health workers, starting with South African nurses, to healthcare employers in developed OECD countries. Candidates complete an online readiness course, language and cultural training, and then enter employer matching. The company positions itself as a career co-pilot for nurses who are unemployed or underemployed at home while hospitals abroad carry unfilled vacancies.
The model is a two-sided marketplace: nurses apply through a cohort-based programme (recruitment for Cohort 1 is open) and employers book hiring consultations. The team says it brings more than a decade of recruitment experience, and the site lists a group of backers and partners.
Propela Health was founded in 2024 and is based in Cape Town. Co-founders are Vuyo Pakade (CEO) and Aya Yokwana (COO). In October 2026 the company was selected for the Google for Startups Accelerator: South Africa 2026 cohort, one of 15 startups in a three-month programme that concludes with a Demo Day in December 2026.
