About PeeCycling

PeeCycling (also written Pee-Cycling) is a South African engineering company spun out of the University of Cape Town's Future Water Institute. Its modular urine-to-fertiliser recovery system collects urine through waterless urinals or no-mix toilets, stabilises it to prevent nitrogen loss and concentrates it with pretreatment and reverse osmosis to produce nursery-grade liquid fertiliser and reusable water, conserving potable water and reducing reliance on imported fertiliser. The company operates a plant at Cape Town Stadium and has partnered with Bidvest Prestige for urine collection and system operation. PeeCycling was co-founded by UCT professor Dyllon Randall and Stellenbosch University senior lecturer Caitlin Courtney, and was selected as a finalist for the 2026 Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation.
