About Melanin Kapital
Melanin Kapital finances green innovation across Africa's agricultural value chains using cash-flow-based lending rather than collateral. It lends to small and growing businesses in solar and irrigation, cold chain, agro-processing and carbon projects, underwriting on invoices that buyers already owe so financing is not gated on land titles or asset registries. Borrowers apply, sign and manage financing digitally. The company reports US$1.5 million disbursed, more than 20 green SMEs financed and over 400,000 smallholder farmers reached downstream.
Melanin Kapital was founded in 2019 in Nairobi, Kenya. It took part in Cohort 3 (2024) of the Visa Africa Fintech Accelerator.
