About KnowRoaming
KnowRoaming is a travel connectivity company that sells eSIM data plans for international travellers in more than 200 destinations, directly to consumers and through banks, telecoms businesses and travel platforms, plus an enterprise service for employee travel data. It was started in 2012 by South African cousins Gregory Gundelfinger and Mathew Stein, whose first product was the Global SIM Sticker, a thin chip attached to an existing SIM card to avoid roaming charges. In April 2024 Telna divested the KnowRoaming brand to eSimplified, and executive director Michael Roffey has since rebuilt the business around consumer and enterprise travel eSIMs. In September 2026 South African investment group DNI announced an investment in KnowRoaming, and in October 2026 the company launched KR.One, a single eSIM installed once to which travellers add a destination plan for each trip. KnowRoaming has a large staff contingent in South Africa and plans to expand into key African markets over the next 12 to 24 months.
