About Autonomous Systems Research

Autonomous Systems Research (ASR) is a Kenya-based limited liability company that describes itself as a research group developing systems that can run themselves. It began with drone work for disaster response, wildlife and conservation, and now offers Earth observation, AI, drone-based biomass and carbon scouting, virtual tourism, geospatial intelligence and data services. Its gas project converts waste plant biomass into gas and electricity for off-grid use; ASR uses blockchain to record biomass traceability and supplier payments, and says it is building a blockchain mobile-money platform with a local bank. Projects that mature are intended to be incorporated as separate companies. UNICEF's Office of Innovation provided its first grant through the Innovation Fund and ASR later graduated from that programme.
