About 1 Million Teachers

1 Million Teachers (1MT) is a reward-based teacher development programme that works to address the teacher shortage and improve the quality of teaching in sub-Saharan Africa. Teachers use a mobile-optimised learning portal to access training courses, earning rewards as they progress, and the company runs partnerships and initiatives that support educators and digital literacy.

1MT was co-founded by Hakeem Subair and Rizma Butt, graduates of Queen's University's Master of Management Innovation and Entrepreneurship programme in Canada, where the company has its base. It joined the fourth cohort of the Injini edtech incubator in 2020.
