About Smartel Agritech
Smartel Agritech designs and deploys smart hydroponic systems for arid and climate-exposed areas. Its technology combines soil-free hydroponics, smart irrigation, solar power and IoT sensors to monitor nutrients in real time, detect plant disease and automate watering, which the company says saves up to 90% of water compared with traditional farming.
The Rwanda-based startup serves smallholder farmers, urban households and refugee communities growing vegetables, fodder and fruit, and offers training, technical support and revenue-sharing models. Smartel was founded in 2022 by Nigerian entrepreneur Israel Smart and joined Class 9 of the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa in June 2025.
