About Safiri

Safiri is a digital mobility marketplace built in Tanzania. Travellers use its iOS and Android apps to search, compare and buy tickets for buses, trains, ferries, flights and airport transfers, track departures in real time, rent vehicles and send or track parcels. For operators, Safiri provides B2B software and optional hardware that move ticket sales, scheduling, vehicle tracking and daily operations off paper and onto one system.

The company also runs an agent network of local shops, kiosks, fuel stations and supermarkets where customers can buy tickets and drop or collect parcels, and it recruits delivery riders and sales agents through the app. It reports more than 800 travel partners and 200+ destinations, and the Android app has passed 10,000 downloads.

Safiri was founded in 2020 by Abraham Itule and Justine Nsemwa and is headquartered in Dar es Salaam, operated by Itule Company Limited. It was supported by develoPPP Ventures in its Q4 2024 cohort and in 2026 was one of 15 companies in Class 10 of the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa, which ran from March to June 2026 and closed with a Demo Day in Nairobi.
