Jonathan Elcock

Jonathan Elcock is a South African tech entrepreneur and CEO of rather.chat, a startup specializing in AI-powered chatbots for WhatsApp customer engagement. He graduated from the University of Cape Town in 2009 with a Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science. Elcock began his career at Zestlife in product development (2010-2014) and call center operations (2013-2014), then served as Head of Sales & Commercial at MiWayLife (2014-2017). In 2017, he co-founded CompariSure (later pivoted to rather.chat) with Matt Kloos, creating South Africa's first independent online life insurance comparison platform. Under his leadership, rather.chat has facilitated interactions with over 15 million South Africans. In 2024, he received the Africa Tech Founder of the Year Award.
