Founder & CEO of Yashfii (previously Smartdoc): an “electronic health records” platform in Egypt with highly customize-able history sheets and streamlined digital sending, receiving & storage of lab, radiology and medication orders and results (clinical decision support using AI online consultations, soon isA). Smartdoc was incubated in Harvard University's Social Innovation & Change Initiative (SICI, Cheng fellowship). Yashfii (Smartdoc) has partnered with the “Egyptian Society of Nephrology & Transplantation” to digitize the services of all the hemodialysis units in Egypt, with 83 dialysis units and more than 5100 patients already recruited. Smartdoc is now being used in 3 University hospital departments (2 more almost launched too) and is working on customized modules for 2 large private hospitals. Founder and CEO of Thotron, a tool that facilitates discussions using artificially intelligent concept maps (currently in prototype-testing phase with academics from Harvard & Cairo University). Wael was cofounder & CEO of PDNE (Patient Doctor New Era, 2005-2012), the first and largest student-volunteer-based healthcare quality improvement initiative in Egypt. PDNE recruited more than 4000 volunteers and served > 36,000 patients.
