Tom Osborn is the Co - Founder and Executive Director of Shamiri Institute, a youth-led organization that is committed to providing affordable, evidence-based mental health care to young people across Sub-Saharan Africa and especially Kenya, where 45 percent of young people report clinical depression. In a region where mental health professionals are scarce and disorders are stigmatized, Shamiri develops and implements low-cost low-stigma mental health interventions to thousands. Born and raised in poverty in rural Kenya, Tom has developed a reputation as a serial social entrepreneur, community-mobilizer, and researcher. Tom is a 2021 TED Fellow and an Acumen Fellow. At 18, he was named the youngest Echoing Green Fellow. At 19, he was named on the global Forbes' 30 under 30 list in Social Entrepreneurship. His scientific contributions have been published in >15 scientific journals including JAMA Psychiatry. Tom graduated from Harvard College with a Bachelor’s in Psychology (High Honors).
