Richard Wainwright

Richard Wainwright is a South African chartered accountant (CA(SA)) and banking executive who served as CEO of Investec Bank Limited from 2016 to 2024. He holds a B.Com (Honours: Financial Management), CTA and CA(SA) from the University of Cape Town. His career began at Price Waterhouse (1985-1992), including two years in Philadelphia. He was a founder shareholder of Circle Risk Management Limited before joining Investec in 1995, where he established the Financial Products team and later became Head of Corporate and Institutional Banking in 2001. Wainwright also served as Chairman of the Banking Association South Africa during the COVID-19 pandemic. He currently serves as Chairman of Seeds of Africa and Non-Executive Director at Santam Insurance.
