
Dr. Mauritz Venter is Co-Founder and CEO of AzarGen Biotechnologies, a South African biotechnology company developing human therapeutic proteins using genetic engineering and synthetic biology in plants. He holds a PhD in Plant Biotechnology and BSc (Hons) in Genetics from Stellenbosch University, and an Executive MBA from University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business. He completed two postdoctoral fellowships at Stellenbosch University in plant biotechnology and human genetics, serving as project leader of a Self-Initiated South African Medical Research Council project. He has authored or co-authored 17 research publications in biotechnology and medical genetics and is co-inventor of 2 patent families. Currently serves as Innovation Manager at SKEG while continuing his role at AzarGen.
