Leon Lourens is a seasoned retail leader with over 30 years of experience in the retail sector. He joined PEP in 1990 and progressed through various roles, becoming Managing Director of PEP SA in 2011. After a stint as Head of Operations for Panda supermarkets in the Middle East from 2000-2002, he returned to PEP and steadily advanced through leadership positions. In 2017, he became Chief Operating Officer and then CEO of Pepkor Holdings, leading the company through significant challenges including the COVID-19 pandemic and the July 2021 civil unrest in South Africa. He took early retirement from Pepkor in March 2023. In October 2024, he was appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director at Boxer, where he chairs the Remuneration Committee.
