John Robertson is co-founder of Robertson & Caine, one of the world's largest catamaran manufacturers based in Cape Town, South Africa. A mechanical engineer trained at Cape Technical College with practical experience at De Beers diamond mines, Robertson began building racing yachts in 1977. He founded John Robertson Yachts in 1980 before partnering with the late Jerry Caine in 1991 to establish Robertson and Caine. The company became exclusive supplier to The Moorings charter fleet and developed the globally-renowned Leopard Catamaran brand, which has won seventeen industry awards and delivered over 3,000 vessels. Robertson relocated to Clearwater, Florida in 1999 to manage North American operations. Following Caine's death in 2000, he led the company's expansion into the world's second-largest sailing catamaran manufacturer, employing over 2,600 Cape artisans.
