Douglas Hoto

Douglas Hoto is an accomplished business leader and Group Chief Executive Officer of First Mutual Holdings Limited. He is a qualified actuary with over 30 years of experience, holding fellowships from both the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries of the United Kingdom (FIFA, 1999) and the Actuarial Society of South Africa (FASSA). Starting his career at Old Mutual in 1990, he worked in both Harare and Cape Town before joining First Mutual Life in 1999, rising to Managing Director in 2003 and Chief Executive of First Mutual Limited in 2004. He was instrumental in establishing First Mutual Reinsurance Company, Tristar Insurance Company, and African Actuarial Consultants. Currently serves as Chairman of the University of Zimbabwe Council (2022-2025) and sits on multiple boards. Passionate about education, he has been involved in community transformation initiatives and has taught mathematics and actuarial science at various institutions.
