Daniel Schmitt

Daniel Schmitt is Deputy Head of Unit for Machine Learning and Sustainability at the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) since November 2021. He is a PhD candidate at the University of Bonn researching computational social science, network science, and sustainability science. Previously served as CIO/interim CTO at Musanga Logistics (2018-2020), a technology platform connecting shippers and carriers in Africa. His research focuses on innovation for sustainability in the global south, with publications on machine learning applications and network science approaches to technological innovation.
