Caroline van der Merwe

Caroline van der Merwe is Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer at Jem HR, a WhatsApp-based HR and employee benefits platform for deskless workers in South Africa. She co-founded the company (originally SmartWage) in 2020 with Simon Ellis, focusing on digital inclusion and financial wellness for frontline employees. Caroline holds a BA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Stellenbosch University, Honours in International Relations from UCT, an MBA from UCT Graduate School of Business, and a Master of Advanced Management from Yale School of Management. She is a member of the Harambeans H'23 class and passionate about using technology for social impact.
